Volume: Review – 35 Conferette Day Four – Denton, TX – 03/13/11

Hello once again Denton. This is the final and fourth straight day in a row with you. So let’s make this one good. You’ve already done well with another prime parking spot on the square, so we’re off to a good start.

No traffic today! Just a clear shot into L’il D, so we’re in great spirits to start things off with a rousing set of power indie pop from Royal Bangs. Colour Revolt was next up, followed by Davila 666, Adventures In Magnetism (members of former Denton favorite Stumptone), the dance punk of !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Portugal. The Man, a ramshackle renegade street corner performance from Portland, OR duo Brainstorm, leading into the weekend’s headline act and largest crowd gatherer, Outkast’s Big Boi. Surprisingly, when you combine a massive hip-hop star with Denton’s laid back vibe, his show started 30 minutes behind schedule.

From there, the festival made its end for me, with the always superb Boom Boom Box. There was an attempt to watch Fate Lions, but unfortunately for the very talented Fort Worth songsmiths, this weekend was finished. After a song, it was Fuzzy’s Taco’s time and to the car for the journey home.

I will have my full weekend review up later today or tomorrow, where we will dive a little more in depth into the weekend.
